‘The 100’ Is Leaving Netflix, When?
Sadly for those who enjoy binging on the CW sci-fi thriller The 100, the series isn’t going to be part of the streaming giant’s library forever. As those who follow Netflix news know, their contract with the CW expired back in 2019. Basically, this contract gave Netflix exclusive streaming rights to their content for a short period of time after the finale aired. The contract also allowed the streaming giant to have the content for a window of time that started from the date the final episode was added.
The 100 aired its very first episode on March 19, 2014, and it aired its final episode on September 30, 2020. Likewise, Netflix’s contract with CW was active from 2011 through 2019. Because Netflix already started getting episodes of The 100, the CW was under contract to continue to give the streaming giant ALL episodes from future seasons until the series came to an end. This also put The 100 in the unique position of being one of the last CW shows to continue to add new episodes to the Netflix streaming library.
All this information being said, The 100 has been on Netflix for a few years now as a full series. And, fans are starting to wonder if that means time is almost up. Unfortunately, time is almost for Netflix subscribers in certain regions. And, eventually, The 100 will also be plucked from Netflix’s library in the U.S. too. When is that happening?
The 100 Is Leaving Netflix, When?
Unfortunately, several Netflix regions including Canada, India, and Netherlands are all getting ready to lose The 100. All episodes of the series are slated for removal in these regions as of May 21 of this year. Now, this has caused panic for Netflix users in other regions. Moreover, this has caused some to think the series was leaving the U.S. platform this month. Fortunately, that is simply not the case.
Netflix’s contract with the CW gave them content for five years after the final episode was dropped. This means Netflix U.S. subscribers don’t have to worry about The 100 getting axed from the streaming library until September 2025. So, there is still plenty of time for those who have it sitting in their watch list to binge through those seven seasons.
What Is The Series About?
Netflix tells the story of a society living on a spacecraft making the decision to send a group of 100 delinquents down to Earth to see if the planet is habitable. This was a decision made because they had a serious population crisis on the ship. Ultimately, the people on the ship who made the decision were just trying to solve the population crisis. But, they had to do it in a way that didn’t appear as if they were committing mass murder. Ultimately, the group of delinquents learns that the planet is habitable (kind of). However, they also learn that they are NOT alone.
