Does ‘Survivor’ 44 Have The Worst Advantage Play Yet?

The new Survivor era is known as being one full of new and strange advantages. Every season brings something new to subvert expectations and keep players on their toes. Do they always work well? That’s in the eye of the beholder. But even a great advantage can fall flat if it falls into the hands of the wrong person. Many are of the opinion that this is what happened in the most recent episode of Survivor 44. An advantage that could have been an absolute game-changer became meaningless. It maybe even broke the game of the advantage’s holder into pieces. Could it be the worst advantage play of all time?

Control The Vote

The advantage in question is “Control The Vote”. It’s the latest new toy put into play in Episode 7 of Survivor 44. The name gives a pretty good idea as to its power. It allows the player to tell another player which way to vote, and that player must vote for who they’re told. Really, it’s a glorified Steal-A-Vote. But it does add some complexity to its use since the user is announcing to every player out loud who they want a vote on.

Heidi Lagares of ‘Survivor’ Season 44

That’s exactly what Heidi did in Episode 7 when she controlled Lauren’s vote to put a vote on Yam Yam. A move that has left virtually every viewer scratching their head. What was the purpose? What was Heidi thinking? The dynamics of the tribal were 3 Ratu, 1 Soka, and 1 Tika. The logical conclusion there for Heidi (A Soka) should have been to put a Ratu vote on another Ratu member. She doesn’t do that, though.

The result is that her own ex-tribe member, Matt, winds up getting the boot. And, on top of that, Heidi has made an enemy of Yam Yam by publicly putting a vote on him. Plus she now has enemies at Ratu by stealing Lauren’s vote. Not to mention likely making her own tribe unhappy by doing nothing to help Matt’s fate. Essentially, she made every single person in the game unhappy with her Control The Vote. And she’s put a target on herself where she was previously under the radar. And what positive things did she get out of it? Nobody really knows.

Survivor 44

Survivor Season 44 is officially well into its merge. There are only 10 players left and the jury has its first member. Where things could go from here is unknown. Ratu has a numbers advantage now that Matt is gone. But, with the plethora of advantages and twists always going on in the new era, nothing is certain.

What is certain is the “Control The Vote” advantage did not have the most glamorous debut.
