Stranger Things will be coming to an end sometime in the future after five seasons and all kinds of different monsters. But, thankfully, fans who don’t want to leave Hawkins for good won’t have to say goodbye. There is now official confirmation from Netflix and the Duffer brothers that there will be a Stranger Things spin-off series. It’s going to be coming sometime after the series finale of the main show. And the nature of this spin-off series may be somewhat surprising to unexpecting viewers.
Saturday Morning Cartoons
The Stranger Things spin-off series will be an animated show. Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of the show, say it reminds them of the Saturday morning cartoons they would watch as children. Their statement about the upcoming spin-off is brimming with excitement. It mentions an amazing script and artwork, as well as a continuation of the adventure from the original show.
Very little else is known about the actual content of the spin-off at the moment. The Duffers say the adventure is continuing, but what exactly that means is unclear. Will it still follow the characters from the Stranger Things main show? Or will it follow a new cast of characters but still be set in Hawkins, Indiana? It will likely take some time for other details like plot and cast to begin leaking out onto the internet.
There technically already is an official Stranger Things animated spin-off. Last year, Netflix put out a small short that has various scenes from the main show recreated as cartoons. The short is out on YouTube with the title Stranger Morning Cartoons. It’s clear that the show takes a lot of inspiration from the Saturday morning cartoons of the ’80s. In general, the show takes a lot of cues from ’80s nerd culture, so this comes as no big surprise.
Stranger Things is just a single show as of right now. But it seems like it’s turning into a major franchise.
The End Of Stranger Things
The show that took Netflix to new heights of popularity will be coming to an end with its fifth season. The cast is all grown up, that much was already clear with Season 4. There are even rumors that Season 5 may have a significant time skip to make up for the fact that none of the young actors will even be adolescents anymore by the time it comes out. There still isn’t any release window for the upcoming season just yet. But there will likely be an announcement before the end of 2023.
Stranger Things Season 5 has no official release window as of right now. The first four seasons of the show are out in their entirety on Netflix now.
