SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SURVIVOR 44, EPISODE 6:
The most recent episode of Survivor 44 saw the conclusion to a relationship that’s been boiling for some time. That is, the rocky connection between Josh and Yam Yam. There was clearly some desire from one or both parties for an alliance upon Josh landing at the Tika tribe. Through multiple tribals, however, it became abundantly clear that an alliance wasn’t in the cards. All of that led to Yam Yam ultimately voting Josh off in Episode 6.
Now Josh is doing his round of exit interviews, and he’s speaking about his complicated relationship with Yam Yam. Let’s find out what went wrong and if there was any possibility for the two to work together and keep Josh alive in the game.
Josh & Yam Yam’s Relationship Explained
The interview where Josh speaks about himself and Yam Yam comes from Rob Has A Podcast. He talks about truly being blindsided in thinking that it was Yam Yam at the tribal and not himself. And also what made him want to work with Yam Yam in the first place.
“When I got to Tika, or even before that, seeing he was POC, gay man, same age, husband, just like me. I wanted to work with him immediately,” Josh said about Yam Yam. “When that didn’t come into fruition, I think, emotionally speaking, because I’m an emotional player- that I was upset.”
Yam Yam vented his frustration with Josh and continued to throw shade at him throughout the episode in a confessional. He said his moves against Josh were nothing personal, just that they came to each other on different sides. From Yam Yam’s perspective, his relationship with Josh was just the wrong place, the wrong time. For Josh, it was something he took to heart, which may ultimately be what led to his own elimination.
Survivor is a game that tends to reward players who are able to take betrayals and emotional moves in stride rather than letting them dictate their strategy. Yam Yam came out on top in the end here. It’s a shame to see their dynamic is over, though. The brief time that Tika was just Josh, Yam Yam, and Carolyn was filled with hilariously zany conversations.
The Survivor 44 Merge
The Survivor 44 merge is finally here. Fans now know the 11 players who will ultimately be battling it out for the Sole Survivor title. Ratu and Soka are currently tied for the numbers advantage, but it’s unclear if that will mean anything moving forward. It seems evident from Episode 6 that some tribal allegiances are tricky and bound to shift. A player like Carson may not stick with his other Tika members when he has good relationships over at Ratu now.
There are also still a number of idols and advantages in play. Next week’s episode could be the most interesting yet.
New Episodes of Survivor Season 44 are airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
