‘Today:’ Al Roker & Carson Daly Call Craig Melvin A ‘Cheapskate’
Craig Melvin revealed that Al Roker and Carson Daly called him a “cheapskate.” This has become an ongoing theme on the Today Show. He called them out for ganging up on him on a regular basis. Find out what sparked this outcry on national television.
Calls out Al Roker & Carson Daly
Craig Melvin clearly had enough. He called out Al Roker and Carson Daly during a live broadcast. The moment took place when co-anchor Savannah Guthrie admitted that she learned auctioneering from Lydia Fenet. The Today Show shared a clip on its Twitter page.
The segment featured Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly, Sheinelle Jones, and Savannah Guthrie. They talked about a broadcast journalist who was called a “master of the gavel” and a “legendary charity auctioneer.” Al shared that one of the “tricks” to bidding is to “split it” with someone. Carson shared that Craig is too much of a “cheapskate” to do it.
Al confirmed that they both “say that to Craig every day.” Craig laughed and repeated: “Every Day. That’s right.” He laughed with the Today Show crew. Al added: “T-Rex arms,” poking fun at Craig’s inability to raise a paddle during an auction. Craig wouldn’t win any of the items since he’s too cheap to place a high bid.
This isn’t the first time that Al has called Craig Melvin cheap on the show before. Just months prior, the two would get into heavy debates about the Super Bowl. Some of their debates included the price of snacks at a football game. Al took the opportunity to chide his co-host.
Craig Melvin admits he’s cheap
Last month, Al Roker called out Craig Melvin during the live broadcast. They were joined by Sheinelle and Dylan Dreyer. The co-hosts discussed how much Americans would spend on food on Super Bowl Sunday. Some threw parties at home, while others went to the bar or the game.
Craig Melvin talked about the cost of Super Bowl tickets. He also brought up the costs of food. Business and data reporter, Brian Chung, revealed that the average cost of a hot dog and beer was $18. Craig called the price “shameful.” He said that the stadiums “should throw in the hot dog.”
Al joked that Craig would bring his own snacks to the game. He recounted a scenario in which he wouldn’t let his son buy anything at the game. Instead, he would bring his own bag of popcorn. Craig admitted that he’s cheap enough to bring his own snacks.
