‘Return To Amish’ Maureen Faking Lifestyle For Show?

Return to Amish star Maureen Byler has been accused of faking her lifestyle for the show. Though it is a reality series, it is known that scenes can be reshot. More so, production can play a huge part in what viewers actually see. However, if someone is pretending to be something that they are not, that makes things extremely inauthentic. Is this the case with Maureen? Read on for more details.
Return To Amish Maureen Faking Lifestyle For Show?
Maureen Byler joined the cast in Season 6. She’s Grandma Ada’s granddaughter and was a schoolteacher in her Amish community. Yet, she was eager to see what life was like outside of what she had always known. Since her grandma was going to Florida, Maureen and her best friend, Rosanna Miller decided to meet her down there. Along with Ada, they would meet Sabrina Burkholder, Jeremiah and Carmela Raber, and Jethro Nolt. Of course, Maureen had a crush on an ex-Amish taxi driver, Daniel Byler (no relation).
“More proof Maureen was English way before return to amish,” the thread started. The above photo was from January 2018 and can still be found on her page. “WOW. I keep trying to think of ways to explain this away, but it doesn’t add up! The production has to be the ones making them still wear the dresses and bonnets,” one person wrote. Another added: “I’m pretty sure this is what production has been doing this entire time… more fraud by TLC… still am loving the show although I realize how fake it is.”
How Fake?
It is not abnormal for those who have left their communities to return to them. That is, if they have not been shunned. That may have been the missing piece of Maureen’s story. However, she seemingly alluded to the idea that she had never left the Amish and had never been exposed to English life whatsoever. This is clearly false so how fake is Return to Amish? Did they want her on the series as a tie to Grandma Ada as Mama Mary Schmucker always had her kids? That could be the case but it might feel like a very different show from here on out.
Do you believe that production is making the cast appear Amish when they are actually living in the English world? Is that false advertising? Let us know your thoughts and watch Return to Amish Tuesdays on TLC.
