Madonna’s Oldest Brother, Anthony Ciccone, Dead At 66

Sharing a photo his brother Dave took, Joe revealed he had known Anthony since he was just 15 years old. And, he would be deeply missed.

He penned in his long, beautiful, and heartbreaking tribute to his brother-in-law: “My brother-in-law, Anthony Gerard Ciccone, exited this earthly plane last evening. I’ve known him since I was 15, in the spring of our lives in Michigan so many years now gone.”

As brother Dave Henry (who took this photograph) notes here, Anthony was a complex character; and god knows: we tangled in moments, as true brothers can. But I loved him, and understood him better than I was sometimes willing to let on. But trouble fades; and family remains— with hands reached across the table. Farewell, then, brother Anthony. I want to think the god your blessed mother (and mine) believed in has her there, waiting to receive you. At least for today, no one shall dissuade me from this vision.

He Was Estranged From Most Of The Family

As TMZ reminds us, Anthony was estranged from Madonna as well as many of his other family members. Anthony Ciccone spent years battling an addiction to alcohol. He endured behind homeless. He once lived under a bridge. Anthony even blasted Madonna and many of his family members for not caring about him.

Per TMZ, Anthony blasted his family years ago in an interview stating that he knew he meant nothing to them. He singled his sister Madonna out noting that she never loved him and he never loved her. Here’s exactly what he had to say:

Rest in peace, Anthony Ciccone.
