New episodes of Demon Slayer are just around the corner. It has been just over a year since the premiere of the Season 2 finale, and now it’s almost time to start Season 3. The new arc, Swordsmith Village, has been getting teasers for a while now. Its release window is set for this April with no specific day for the first episode out just yet. Yet, ahead of that first episode, we have some new information about a different piece of Demon Slayer content. Information that gives us a look into all the bloodshed we can expect from everything coming up in the series.

This new information is all about the new Demon Slayer movie that’s dropping just ahead of the Season 3 premiere. The title is Demon Slayer: To The Swordsmith Village. So it’s clearly meant to be a lead-in to the arc we’ll be seeing for the first portion of Season 3. The movie already came out in Japan but we’re waiting until March 4th to see it here in the west.

It’s not a movie for kids, though. At least, not according to the Motion Picture Association of America. Demon Slayer: To The Swordsmith Village has a confirmed R-rating. This R-rating apparently comes from “violence and bloody images”. Many fans on social media are viewing this rating as unnecessarily harsh. An animated film having a lot of blood doesn’t seem like enough to warrant the “adults only” stamp. Plus, in Japan, the movie is rated PG-12, and the anime has a significant adolescent audience. This rating will only serve to restrict that younger audience from being able to enjoy a series they love being in their local theaters.

There’s no need to worry about this rating affecting the movie’s box office too much, though. The first DS film, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, was a massive, record-breaking success even with its R-rating. It was the highest-grossing film of 2020 and still is the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time.

Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer is undoubtedly one of the biggest anime in the world and will likely be sweeping the streaming charts in 2023 with this new season. It’s far from over, too. The Swordsmith Village arc will get us through Volume 15 of the manga, with 8 volumes still to go before we reach the ultimate finale. So the show still has a solid amount of steam remaining, and it’s likely that its popularity will only increase leading up to its climactic end.

Demon Slayer Season 3 is premiering this April and will be streaming on Crunchyroll in the US. Demon Slayer: To The Swordsmith Village is coming to theaters across North America on March 4th. And, yes, it will be available with both dubbing and subtitles.
