Guests on Dr. Pimple Popper don’t pay out of their own pockets

Anyone who has seen Dr. Pimple Popper knows that Dr. Lee and her team provide a wide variety of services on the show. Some patients just need something small, while others may require surgery. Each case is different and Dr. Lee takes her time with each patient.

But how do patients pay for these services? It’s actually free — but there is a catch.

According to The Sun, Dr. Lee’s patients don’t actually pay for any of their own medical costs. Once patients agree to be on the show and sign all the paperwork, the production company pays for the treatment. But the publication reports that there are a few conditions.

“For patients to qualify for the cost-free treatment they are required to have either lipomas, cysts, large growths or undiagnosed skin conditions,” The Sun shares.

According to Dr. Lee’s Wikipedia page, this practice started well before she actually had a television show. Dr. Lee used to offer discounted or free services in exchange for sharing their procedure on her booming YouTube channel. After that, it was only a matter of time before TLC took notice of her.

Many patients would gladly jump at the opportunity. Several are living with incredibly painful skin conditions with few answers. Sharing their story on public television seems like a small price to pay for relief.

So how do Dr. Lee’s patients get cast on the show?

Although there are many people who would love to be on Dr. Pimple Popper, there is a selection process.

The Sun reports that TLC has casting agents that keep an eye out for people with serious dermatological conditions. But people can also apply at this link. As of February 3, 2023, it appears that the network is currently accepting applications to appear in the next season of Dr. Pimple Popper.

Dr. Pimple Popper Season 8 wrapped up in September 2022, which means that the ninth season will probably come out this summer or fall. The series may make some TLC fans a little squeamish, but there will always be a dedicated group of Dr. Pimple Popper fans. And they can’t wait for the next season to come out.
