‘Creature Commandos’ Starting New DC Lineup, What You Need To Know

DC Creature Commandos

Creature Commandos was the first property that James Gunn announced would start his new DC Comics lineup in movies and streaming. However, with the news, many fans had no idea who this team was and wondered why they should care.

Here is what we know about Creature Commandos and why it will change everything you know about comic book streaming and movies.

Who are the Creature Commandos?

The new lineup of James Gunn DC Comics movies and streaming series won’t start until 2024. That is because the old lineup is still finishing up this year with Shazam, Flash, and Aquaman. However, the new slate of movies won’t start until 2025. What does that mean for 2024?

There will be a couple of HBO Max shows that will bridge the gap between Aquaman, which hits at the end of this year, and the new Superman movie, which hits in 2025. Those shows are Waller and Creature CommandosWaller is a spin-off from Peacemaker and will include many of those same characters.

However, Creature Commandos is something most fans won’t recognize. The team in DC Comics was a World War II fighting unit that included monsters fighting Nazis. However, Gunn will bring them into the present day and deliver a modern take on the creature heroes.

DC also released an image of the team, so it is clear who is going to be part of the group. These characters include Rick Flag Sr., Nina Mazursky, Dr. Phosphorus, Eric Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, G.I. Robot, and Weasel.

Yes, Rick Flag Sr. is the father of Suicide Squad’s Rick Flag. Yes, that is a Frankenstein’s Monster. Yes, that is the same Weasel from The Suicide Squad. Also, this is a team Amanda Waller creates and Bride of Frankenstein will be the lead character.

How will Creature Commandos change everything in the DCU?

The big news came with what James Gunn and Peter Safran said in the announcement for the project. This will be an animated series on HBO Max, written by Gunn. However, they said that they will only cast voice actors who could also portray the characters in live-action movies. That is because animated shows can, and will, cross over with the movie world.

Everything is in one giant universe. Whoever voices Frankenstein needs to be able to play him in person as well because he could show up down the line. That is very important since the first “chapter” (DC’s version of the MCU Phases) is called Gods and Monsters. The last movie in this is Swamp Thing, and you should probably expect to see a Creature Commandos member in that movie.
