Paul Wesley took to his Instagram Stories to issue a statement after learning of the tragic death of one of his former Vampire Diaries co-stars. As fans of the 40-year-old actor know, he played the leading role of Stefan Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries for eight seasons. Working with many members of the cast for nearly a decade, it is no surprise that many of them grew close. In fact, facts can tell from video clips of conventional panels how close this cast is. Likewise, Paul Wesley remains close to Ian Somerhalder who played his older brother in the series as the two proceeded to create Brother’s Bond Bourbon together.

TVD: Paul Wesley deeply saddened by tragic passing

Paul Wesley took to his Instagram Stories to reveal he was “deeply saddened” to learn his co-star, Annie Wersching passed away. Sadly, the actress was diagnosed with cancer back in 2020. She, however, continued to go on working and living life. Unfortunately, she has finally lost her battle with cancer. As fans of TVD will recall, Annie played the role of Stefan and Damon’s mother, Lily Salvatore in the series. There were some intense rifts between Lily and her boys, but she was still technically Paul’s TV mother.

In reacting to her tragic passing, Paul noted that Annie was both a “wonderful” and “talented” actress. And, he knew that he was lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her. He concluded his reaction to her passing by encouraging fans to visit the GoFundMe campaign to help her family during this difficult time.

With many other celebrities who had the pleasure of working with her also sharing her GoFundMe campaign link, $150K has been raised to help her husband to continue to support their children during this difficult time. This amount was raised in just 24 hours. Ultimately, the campaign as a goal of raising $250K.

The campaign reads: “This Go Fund Me is for them. It’s so Steve can have time to grieve without the pressure of needing to work. So he can be daddy to Freddie (12), Ozzie (9) and Archie (4) as they navigate the future without their mom.”
