Maks Chmerkovskiy Shares Peta Was ‘Near Death’ After Failed IVF
By now, most Dancing With The Stars fans know how difficult 2022 was for Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd’s family. For years, the couple has been a powerhouse in the ballroom dancing world. But over the past 12 months, they’ve definitely had more than their fair share of challenges.
Between Maks’ escape from Ukraine, fertility struggles, and the loss of Peta’s father, the family desperately needed some good news to share. Thankfully, Maks and Peta are expecting a healthy baby this summer. But the journey this far has been long and hard. In a recent interview, Maks Chmerkovskiy even revealed that Peta was near death at one point.
Maks Chmerkovskiy is in awe of his wife’s resilience
Maks Chmerkovskiy recently opened up about fertility issues and his family’s journey to conceiving their rainbow baby. He told ET that he and Peta were trying to have another baby for about two and a half years before the war in Ukraine started. But when it broke out, Maks was in Ukraine judging a dance show and narrowly made it out with his life. He revealed that it was an incredibly stressful situation and only made it tougher for the couple to expand their family when he returned.
The couple later decided to try IVF, which ultimately failed. Both Maks and Peta kept fans pretty informed about their IVF journey, so it was hard for everyone to hear the news.
“So, when we were going through IVF and it was very public and it didn’t work, Peta was near death for 24 hours, in extreme depression,” the Ukrainian dancer told ET. “Then I watched her literally get up, dial our casting director and say, ‘I want my job back,’ and two days later, she was on Dancing With the Stars training her first celebrity, so my hat’s off. I cannot tell you how proud I am of her, how just — getting emotional — but some of the strongest people are usually right around us, so, she’s definitely someone that I look up to.”
Maks Chmerkovskiy went on to reveal that about a month later, they realized Peta was pregnant. Now, it seems like the family is well on its way to healing as they prepare to welcome their second child.
Peta Murgatroyd couldn’t wait to share the news about her pregnancy
Understandably, Maks and Peta waited several months to share the news about the new baby. On January 13, 2023, Peta shared some maternity photos and details about her pregnancy. According to the dancer’s Instagram page, the baby will arrive in June. The couple hasn’t publically announced the baby’s gender yet, but that may come in the next few weeks or months. It’s also possible that they won’t share any more details until Peta actually gives birth.
