No Doubt singer talks about her Japanese heritage

On Tuesday, January 10, Gwen Stefani trended on Twitter when she shared in her interview with Allure that she’s Japanese. She repeated it throughout the editorial piece. The 53-year-old is Italian-American and Irish-American. However, she cited Japanese culture in her native country when she was growing up.

Gwen explained that her father would travel from California to Japan. He would share stories about “performers cosplaying as Elvis and stylish women with colorful hair.” As a result, Gwen feels connected to Japanese culture. She also feels that it’s her true ethnicity.

“That was my Japanese influence and that was a culture that was so rich with tradition, yet so futuristic [with] so much attention to art and detail and discipline and it was fascinating to me,” Gwen Stefani told Allure. “I said, ‘My God, I’m Japanese and I didn’t know it.'”

The singer made that discovery when she traveled to Japan herself. She later insisted in the interview that she was Japanese. It was one of the strangest interviews in her career. She made the comments to Allure reporter Jesa Marie Calaor, who is Asian American.

Gwen Stefani’s reps later denied the claims. They explained the singer’s comments were misconstrued. However, they never specified which parts of the interview were taken out of context. Gwen hasn’t spoken out about the controversial interview on social media.

Gwen Stefani wears kimono in Instagram Reel

The timing of Gwen Stefani’s Instagram Reel is uncanny. In the clip pinned to her feed, she wore a red floral print silk kimono. Her platinum blonde hair was styled in curls. She waved her mascara wand around before applying it to her lashes.

“PSA We can’t stop staring at the NEW @gxvebeauty by @gwenstefani Can’t Stop Starin’ Mascara. This mascara separates and defines each eyelash for that perfect lengthened and lifted lash look,” Gwen Stefani’s Instagram Reels reads.

Fans took to the comment section to share their thoughts on her Allure interview. One user said they’re Asian and are “flattered” by what Gwen said. Others shared their love for the pop star and her kimono. One user sarcastically wrote: “So Japanese,” while another commented: “Too much makeup.”
