’DWTS’: Peta Murgatroyd’s Dad Dead At 81
Dancing With The Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd has some tragic news to share. Sadly, her father passed away today. The 36-year-old dancer updated fans on social media to let them know about her father’s passing.
Peta Murgatroyd is very involved with her family. She’s married to former DWTS pro Maks Chmerkovskiy. They have one son together, Shai. But since Peta was raised in Australia, she doesn’t get to see her extended family often. Without a doubt, this is an incredibly difficult time for her and her loved ones.
Peta Murgatroyd pens a heartbreaking tribute to her father on social media
In light of her father’s passing, Peta Murgatroyd chose to make a formal announcement on social media. She wrote a touching letter to her father and expressed her desire to reunite with him in the afterlife.
“To The Greatest Dad, my teddy bear. This is the end of our ride earth side,” the dancer posted on her Instagram page. “Oh how I wish we could take this boat trip again. In the next life we will. This glance to each other was perfectly captured, you were so content, at sea where you were always meant to be. I know though that you will continue to ride with me until I see you again.”
“I hope I made you proud these 36 years. You were my everything and I will miss you until my days here are done. I will hold the warmth of your hand in my heart forever. Always your ‘darling baby girl’ as you would say. I love you until the 12th of never. Forever Daddy’s Girl. Derek John Murgatroyd 22/7/1941 ~ 29/12/2022”
Peta’s friends and fans took to the comments section to leave their condolences. Peta Murgatroyd has been part of Dancing With The Stars for years. Dancers and audience members alike love and adore her.
“Will never forget our jazz club night with him. Pure joy and happiness. ♥️” Peta’s sister-in-law Jenna Johnson wrote.
“Oh I’m so sorry for your loss friend. This is a beautiful post. My heart is with you. ❤️” DWTS Season 30 contestant Amanda Kloots added.
It’s not immediately clear what happened to Peta’s father. However, she did include an image of herself holding his hand in a hospital bed, leading many to believe he was ill.
Rest in peace, Derek John Murgatroyd.
2022 has been an incredibly hard year for the family
On top of the death of Peta’s father, the family has also been struggling with infertility. Peta and Maks tried IVF this year, but it unfortunately didn’t work out. To take her mind off of things, she dove back into her work and returned to Dancing With The Stars. Sadly, she and her partner left the competition during week one.
Fans sincerely hope that 2023 is better for Peta Murgatroyd and her family.
