Michael and Amy Halterman were absolutely delighted to bring a new pet home for the holidays. Their chihuahua Little Bit passed away earlier in 2022 at the age of 22 years old. She lived a very long life and fans will definitely miss seeing her onscreen.

In general, fans seemed really happy that the Haltermans received a new pet. But a few fans showed a little bit of concern for the breed. Keep reading to see what fans had to say.

Fans express concern over Amy Halterman’s choice in dog breed

As Amy Halterman shared on Instagram, her family’s new pet was a “gift” from the Elf on the Shelf. The dog is a chihuahua-pomeranian mix named Daisy Mae. Amy seems very comfortable handling the dog already, but she hasn’t shared any photos of her sons and Daisy.

Followers noticed that Daisy is definitely cute, but they worried about her breed.

Just be careful with your new family member. Don’t leave the boys alone with her not at first anyway. Chihuahuas can be very nippy and snippy especially because they’re so small they are timid and afraid of being hurt. Just saying. Only my opinion. Merry Christmas to you and the family 👪 ❤️” a fan wrote in the comments. Many other followers echoed similar sentiments.

“Not just your opinion 😉 Chihuahuas and Dachshunds bite more people than Chows and Pitbulls combined,” another of Amy’s followers replied. “Mostly those bites are insignificant and unreported. It’s different when they bite little fingers and faces and can actually inflict harm. Chihuahuas and Pomeranians (the mixes Any mentioned) are both notorious lap guards and will guard mom from the little boys, almost guaranteed, unless Amy sets healthy boundaries from day one. Thankfully she does have experience with little dogs.”

It’s not immediately clear if Amy had Little Bit for the dog’s entire life. However, the chihuahua did live with the Haltermans for a number of years. As the Instagram user above pointed out, her experience with small dogs will definitely come in handy as they raise Daisy Mae.
