Will Netflix Pick Up ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’?
Push In Boots: The Last Wish starring Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek is finally out and fans wonder if and when Netflix will pick up the movie. The movie is a sequel to the Shrek franchise and the second in the Puss In Boots series. The movie comes 11 years after the first movie that happened in 2011 produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Experienced Multiple Setbacks
Given that the first movie was a big success, both Hayek and Banderas were eager to reprise their roles as Kitty Softpaws and Puss In Boots. Plans for the sequel started in 2012. However, the movie experienced several halts that lead to the long gestation.

Firstly, DreamWorks changed hands, from Paramount to Universal, back in 2016. Next, the director was changed after which Joel Crawford eventually took charge. Moreover, the 2020 pandemic also played a significant role in the movie’s delay.
Antonio Banderas’ Health Scare Impacted The Movie
In an interview, Banderas also admitted that the movie was also postponed due to a health scare he had back in 2017. He revealed, “And I suppose that actually has to do also with a scare that I had in 2017, in which I almost lost my life.”
In January 2017, the 62-year-old actor suffered a heart attack. Although he seemed to be healthy at the time, he was immediately rushed to the hospital. Later, he underwent surgery with three stents implanted into his coronary arteries. The Desperado star recalled that it was one of the best things that happened in his life and changed his perspective on what is important to him.

The movie follows the titular character discovering his passion for adventure with just one life left out of his nine lives. As he sets out on an epic journey to locate the mythical Last Wish, he attempts to restore his nine lives while escaping new enemies. As per critics, the movie has a darker tone to the story as compared to its predecessor.
When Will Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Head To Netflix?
For fans awaiting its premiere on Netflix, the movie Puss In Boots: The Last Wish will surely come to the streamer sometime in 2023. This is a part of the streamer’s first window deal with Universal and its animation studios in 2021. However, as reported by What’s On Netflix, the first window rights are split between Netflix and Peacock. So, the movie will be available exclusively in theaters from December 21 to March 2023. For the next four months, it will be available on Peacock.

Later, on July 1, 2023, the movie will be available to stream on Netflix until May 2024. After which, it will move back to Peacock for additional four months. However, this is an expected Netflix premiere date and there is a possibility that it might change.
