Minions: The Rise Of Gru will soon head to Netflix as the New Year approaches. It is the sixth entry in the Despicable Me franchise and serves as the sequel to Minions (2015). The movie was released in the United States on July 1, 2022, after which it dropped on Peacock. So, when will the animated movie leave Peacock and head to Netflix? Minions: The Rise Of Gru Was Delayed Due To COVID
The sequel tells the tale of an 11-year-old Gru who has ambitious plans to become a supervillain with the help of his minions. However, his road to success isn’t so easy. On his journey to become a supervillain, he must engage in a showdown with Vicious 6, a malevolent team comprised of notorious antiheroes. The movie was initially supposed to release in 2020. However, it was delayed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minions: The Rise Of Gru was a huge success and received generally positive reviews from fans and critics alike. Although the movie was praised for its entertainment value, musical numbers, aesthetics, and humor, it was criticized for its weak plot.
The Rise Of Gru Is The Highest-Grossing Animated Movie 2022
Regardless, the movie was a box-office success and grossed more than $939 Million worldwide. This achievement made it the fourth-highest-grossing movie in 2022 and the highest among animated movies in the same year. As per What’s On Netflix, the movie even surpassed Black Adam, The Batman, and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 box office collection.

The movie was dedicated to animator Madeline Montero, who died during the movie’s production. The Rise Of Gru also has had its fair share of controversies. The movie was reportedly banned in Lebanon. Although no reason for the ban was specified, fans speculate it was because of the character Nun-chuck’s portrayal of nuns as evil. On the other hand, the theatrical Chinese version of the movie replaced the ending scene. It carried a message stating that Wild Knuckles was arrested and landed in prison for twenty years. He also pursued acting and started a theater troupe while Gru returned to his family.
Netflix Will Stream Minions: The Rise Of Gru For 10 Months
Three months after its theatrical release, the movie landed on Peacock on September 23, 2022. As a part of Universal Pictures and NBCUniversal’s 18-month deal, the movie will stream on Peacock for four months. Starting New Year, it will move to Netflix for 10 months before returning to Peacock for its last four months.

So, Netflix US subscribers can stream the movie from January 23 to November 23, 2023. However, the movie’s international premiere date on the streamer isn’t clear yet.
