Netflix Claims The Royals Declined To Comment On The Docuseries

The Royals have refuted Netflix’s claims that the palace officials had the chance to comment on the content in the docuseries. The streamer also asserted that the family tried to obtain the series’ footage ahead of the premiere. As per Variety, the squabble started after the docuseries landed on Netflix at 8 a.m. (UK time). However, the content in the title card grabbed the Royals’ attention.

It read, “This is a firsthand account of Harry and Meghan’s story, told with never before seen personal archive. All interviews were completed by August 2022. Members of the Royal Family declined to comment on the content within the series.”

Netflix Claps Back At The Royals’ Claims

However, it appears that the Royals do not agree with these claims. Later, a Buckingham Palace source briefed the reporters that they were never approached to comment on the docuseries before its release. Rebecca English, a royal editor with The Daily Mail tweeted that contrary to the streamers’ claims, no Royal Family member was approached for a commentary on the series’ content. This includes the royals from both Buckingham and Kensington Palace.

An insider at Netflix immediately clapped back at the comments made by the royal editor. They asserted that both Harry’s brother, Prince William, and father, King Charles were approached for comment via their communication secretaries. They were even given a window to reply but no reply was received regarding the docuseries.

The Royals Were Requested To Comment By A Third-Party Company

The new Netflix documentary has Harry and Meghan making several claims that were unheard of. This has surely caused tension among the Royals. In the docuseries, Harry claimed that his brother shouted and screamed at him after he revealed that he and his wife planned to leave the Royal Family. He also claimed that William bullied him out of the family. Harry alleged that his father made false claims and both William and King Charles leaked stories to the press about the former Royal couple.

However, later, the Buckingham Palace sources went back on their claims. They affirmed that the Royals did receive a request to comment on the docuseries. However, they maintained that the request came from a third-party production company and not Netflix or Archewell, the Sussexes’ production company. They attempted to verify the same with the streamer but didn’t receive and reply and hence refrained from responding to the request to comment.
