Chainsaw Man is one of the biggest anime and manga in the world right now. Chances are if you ask a group of manga nerds what ongoing stories they’d recommend, you’ll get a lot of Chainsaw Man replies. What ongoing manga would the popular series’ creator, Tatsuki Fujimoto, recommend? A recent note from the author reveals which manga stories he’s enjoying the most right now. So take notes if you’re a fan because these may just be the next big series.

What Are Fujimoto’s Favorites?

The two manga that Tatsuki Fujimoto recommends are Blue Period and Chaos Game.

Chaos Game is a bit tough to get into at the moment if you’re an American (Or just non-Japanese) manga reader. It’s a very new series that currently only has one volume out there. That volume has yet to receive an English translation or international release. So, at the moment, it is just a series to wait on while Japanese readers get to enjoy it. The story is about a journalist who winds up in trouble with the crime-ridden underworld as she chases a tricky story.

Blue Period is far more popular than Chaos Game, and may already be a familiar name for manga or anime fans out there. The manga became popular enough that the first season of its anime is out now. It’s been successfully running for about 5 years now, with 13 volumes done by the author Tsubasa Yamaguchi. The story is about a high-ranking student who gives up academia to chase his artistic passion. It’s fairly reminiscent of another popular manga, Bakuman, as it’s a coming-of-age story about the difficulties of the art world.

The authors for both Chaos Game and Blue Period are very new to the manga world. Their respective ongoing stories are really the first showcases of their talent. It’s nice to see Tatsuki, a newbie to the manga world himself, showing love to other up-and-coming creators.

The Recommendations Vs. Chainsaw Man

The premises behind Chaos Game and Blue Period are a bit more subdued than Chainsaw Man. It’s a story that’s tough to describe for new readers as it is so full of off-the-wall ideas. The fact that those ideas coalesce into a story that’s as emotionally impactful as it is zany is a testament to Fujimoto’s writing. So any other story recommendations from a modern master like that are shows to watch out for.

Chainsaw Man Season 1 is still ongoing, with each new episode premiering on Crunchyroll in the U.S. Are you watching the anime series right now?
