‘Dropkick On My Devil!’ Gets Crowfunded OVA In Just 35 Minutes

Dropkick On My Devil! fans have managed to successfully crowdfund an OVA special for the franchise. The Japanese manga anime series, written and illustrated by Yukiwo, has a total of three seasons. However, fans wanted more of it and the campaign might just lead to a new fourth season after all. What is the craze behind this anime? Why do fans want more? Keep reading to find out the details!

What Is Dropkick On My Devil! Anime About?

The anime series is an adaptation of a manga of the same name. It trails the adventures of a Japanese human witch, Yurine Hanazono, who is also a college student. More so, she summons the evil god Iamia Jashin from Hell. However, unable to go back to hell by herself, the evil god spends her day unsuccessfully trying to kill Yurine while also spending time with her and several acquaintances from Hell and Heaven.

Dropkick On My Devil! Season 1 first dropped on July 9, 2018, on Crunchyroll with a total of 12 episodes. The next season premiered on April 6, 2020, with a total of 11 episodes and another special episode. The latest episode dropped on July 6, 2022, and recently wrapped up in September with a total of 12 episodes.

Why Was The Crowdfunding Campaign Initiated?

As per Anime News Network, the crowdfunding started after the production team was unable to get enough funding to create an entire season. The anime needed roughly 300 Million Yen ($2,202,675) needed to create one cour. For every 30 Million Yen ($220,275) goal that is met, one OVA episode will be produced. Later on, these episodes will be screened at events and then streamed online.

If the campaign manages to fund a total of 12 episodes, they will be collected together and broadcast on TV as the anime’s fourth season. Not just that, the fund contributors will get prioritized access and sponsorship for a Jashin-chan Fest featuring several stage programs, exhibitions, and screenings. The fest will also feature a special Jashin-chan version of the party game Werewolf with the anime’s voice character involved.

This isn’t the first time the anime has opted for crowdfunding. The third season of the series had a crowdfunding campaign with 2880 backers that successfully raised 36,181,238 Yen ($351,100) for production funding. Moreover, the pledgers got the chance to name the anime’s latest season as well as the episode titles. Additionally, they also got a chance to choose the voice for background characters in the anime.

The latest campaign for Season 4 crowdfunding launched on November 30, 2022, at 7 a.m. EST and ends on January 13, 2023. At the time of writing, the campaign has raised 39,251,698 Yen ($282,000). The OVA special funded with this campaign will air sometime in December 2025. Finally, backers of certain tiers will receive the anime on Blu-ray Disc.
