“Flash” and Flashdance singer Irene Cara has been confirmed dead at the age of 63. Sadly, the details surrounding her death have not been made public, per TMZ.

Irene Cara had a successful career as a singer that included winning an Oscar for Best Original Song. She won the award for the song “What a Feeling.” The song quickly became an iconic song from Flashdance.

This iconic singer first rose to fame when she was cast to be a part of the 1980s musical Fame. In the musical, she sang the title track. She starred in the musical as the role of CoCo Hernandez. She received two Grammy nominations for best new artist and best pop vocal performance in 1981.

She released the major hit “Fame” from the film of the same name as the song. She even got nominated for a Golden Globe for “Best Actress” because of the work she did for the film.

This incredibly talented singer also dabbled in acting as she went on to star in a number of movies including City Heat and Certain Fury.

The prestige and honor didn’t end there for Irene Cara. In 2004 she also received a Prestige Award for Lifetime Achievement. According to the singer’s rep, the family has not released any details on her death and has asked for privacy to mourn her passing.
