What Is Hallmark’s Hanukkah On Rye About

According to the Hallmark synopsis, Gilbert’s is an old-school Jewish deli located on the Lower East Side of New York City. The deli has been around for one hundred years, and Molly (Grobglas) is the fourth generation who will soon be taking over from the older generation.

Meanwhile, Southern California Deli, Leven’s is expanding into New York City. Jacob (Jordan) is part of this deli dynasty and is going to be closing the East Coast deal. However, this new deli is going to be just a few blocks from Gilberts.

Just before Hanukkah, Jacob’s bubby (grandmother) bestows him with an early gift. Bubby signed Jacob up with a matchmaker. In addition, Molly’s bubby does the same thing. Of course, Jacob and Molly are the couple that the matchmaker has set up.

The infamous matchmaker has a set of rules. Each person must send the other person handwritten letters. In addition, they need to use pseudonyms. Neither knows the other’s real identity. They only know each other as Beth and David.

The connection is instant. This is an old-fashioned romance blossoming. However, when Molly learns who Jacob is, she is afraid of her family’s deli business. While she has fallen for the David of the letters, she despises Jacob who could hurt her family with his new deli nearby.

Will there be a Hanukkah miracle to turn this into a happily-ever-after ending?
