Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager had a heated texting debate. On a previous broadcast of the Today Show, they argued over whether people really laughed when they type the message the acronym for “laugh out loud.” The friendly discussion quickly turned into an intense quarrel during the morning show. Today Show co-hosts clash over a texting exchange

On Friday’s broadcast of Today, Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager admitted whether they actually laugh at their text messages or if they’re faking it. The two mentioned how messages can easily be misconstrued. Some people make it seem as if they’re only joking or laughing when they’re not. Or, they may use “LOL” in an effort to not make the other person mad.

“Here’s the thing everyone knows. If you’re texting…” Hoda Kotb explained. “The tone is always messed up every single time. I don’t like text conversations unless it’s about like, a plan.”

Jenna agreed with her. She called her co-host “old school.” Jenna shared that Hoda prefers to talk over the phone, to which she agreed. Hoda admitted that she would rather hear someone’s voice and get an idea of how they’re feeling during the call.

The two then got into a heated exchange about using the acronym “LOL,” which means to “laugh out loud.” They wondered if people are really laughing when they type it. Hoda feels that that phrase is overdone.

“I’m not laughing out loud or online,” Hoda Kotb admitted. “When’s the last time you were like, ‘Ha ha ha ha, Lol?'”

Jenna disagreed with her co-host. She admitted that she’s actually laughing when she types “LOL.” She just makes sure to use it “very carefully.” This caused some tension between the two co-hosts who disagreed about using the phrase. The two ladies take their texting practices very seriously.

The two may not always laugh when they’re texting. However, Jenna told Hello! that she and Hoda Kotb are almost always laughing while on the air. This sometimes gets them into trouble with the producers and the viewers. Some Today fans think they’re awkward disasters on the live show.

“I feel like Hoda and I laugh hysterically, we can get into that laughter where we’re not supposed to laugh,” Jenna told Hello! Magazine. “That church laughter where we’re like, ‘We’re going to get into trouble.'”
