Although pro dancer Britt Stewart has never worked with a deaf partner, she couldn’t be happier to work with Daniel Durant this year. The High School Musical cast member has even started learning ASL to help teach Daniel the dance steps. Although they’ve had a few hiccups here and there, they’ve continued to work hard. And now, they’re part of the top nine in DWTS Season 31.

The 32-year-old actor skyrocketed to stardom after his appearance in the award-winning film, CODA. He played the part of the older brother in the film. His onscreen parents Marlee Matlin and Troy Kotsur have visited him in the ballroom and couldn’t be prouder of his progress.

Daniel Durant’s CODA family is excited to see him succeed

Daniel Durant may have just played Troy Kotsur and Marlee Matlin’s son in a movie. However, it seems like they really are as close as family. They’ve enjoyed watching their onscreen son come this far in the competition. At this rate, he may very well take home the Mirrorball Trophy.

“Troy Kotsur and were just bursting with pride to see him on the dance stage,” CODA star Marlee Matlin told E! “I almost leapt over the table and hugged him. I was like, ‘Oh, I’m so happy for Daniel. Our baby is dancing on stage!'”

Marlee previously competed on Dancing With The Stars back in Season 6 and became the first deaf contestant to appear on the show. Season 22 champion Nyle DiMarco was the second, making Daniel Durant the third.

“It takes a lot of balls—I hope you can say that—to get up on the stage and put on your dancing shoes and dance outfit and do a dance in front of millions of people,” she continued.

Matlin and Kotsur aren’t the only ones cheering for Daniel to win. He has a fiercely loyal fanbase, including actress Camryn Manheim. Manheim previously worked with Daniel Durant in a production of Spring Awakening.

The pair gear up for a spooky Halloween Night

On Monday Night, Daniel and Britt are preparing to show off their best dance moves on Halloween Night. They will perform the Paso Doble to “bury a friend” by Billie Eilish. The Paso Doble is one of the toughest ballroom styles, so hopefully Daniel and Britt will put everything they have into it.

In the team dance, Britt and Daniell will be part of “Team Scream.” They will perform a routine to  “Heads Will Roll” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. On Team Scream will be:

  • Trevor & Emma
  • Charli & Mark
  • Wayne & Witney
  • Daniel & Britt

Tune into Halloween Night this Monday and see how your favorite couples perform. Don’t forget to vote for Daniel and Britt if you want to keep them in the competition. Stay tuned for more DWTS news!
