HIDIVE Bags ‘Lupin III’ Spinoff ‘Lupin Zero’ Anime Streaming Rights
Popular anime series Lupin III spinoff Lupin Zero will stream on HIDIVE after its release in the United States. The series serves as a prequel to the original and trails Lupin’s life as a teenage boy. More so, the series will have a global premiere at the Anime NYC Event on November 18. Then, it will head to HIDIVE. So, when does the prequel premiere on the streaming platform? Here are the details!
Spinoff Anime Lupin Zero Season 1 Has Six Episodes
The first season of this spinoff series will have a total of six episodes. It is set in the 1960s Showa-era Japan and centers on the teenaged Lupin III. Lupin Zero delves deeper into the origin story of the titular character and his rise as the greatest thief in the world.

Talking about the upcoming series, HIDIVE President and General Manager, John Ledford said, “We’re thrilled to launch the new original anime LUPIN ZERO this December as an exclusive series only available on HIDIVE, home of the LUPIN THE 3RD anime series. Lupin III has been entertaining audiences for over 50 years and this fan-favorite character is returning with all-new mysteries – but this time as a teenager in junior high in 1960s Tokyo. This new action series will not disappoint!”
What Is Lupin Zero Anime’s Story About?
Lupin Zero follows the story of Lupin III who is a bored junior high school student living in Tokyo. He takes an interest in the young Daisuke Jigen and tries to strike up a conversation with him while at the nightclub. However, Jigen finds Lupin III to be a naïve and privileged boy who is well-off by himself. So, he doesn’t want anything to do with him.

Yet, an incident with Yoko, the singer at the nightclub who is being pursued by the yakuza makes him rethink his decision. He learns that Lupin III is actually a descendant of the legendary thief.

For the unversed, Lupin III is a gentleman and also the greatest thief globally. He is at the top of the most wanted list. Moreover, he is best friends with Daisuke Jigen who is an expert marksman. Even though he is caught and jailed several times, he always manages to get away.
When Does Lupin Zero Premiere On HIDIVE?
The franchise director Daisuke Sako returns for Lupin Zero while the series supervisor is Ichiro Okouchi. The characters in the spinoff are designed by Asami Taguchi of the Lupin III: Goemon’s Blood Spray fame. Animation studio Telecom Animation Film is in charge of the production along with music by Yoshihide Otomo.

As per CBR.com, Lupin Zero premieres on HIDIVE on December 16, 2022, in the United States. The series will be available in the original Japanese language with an English sub and an English dub as well.
