HBO’s Game Of Thrones prequel House Of The Dragon hit a snag after its soon-to-air finale episode was illegally leaked online. Now, the makers have issued an official statement against the unfortunate setback. The finale episode titled The Black Queen is slated to premiere on October 23, 2022. HBO is now aggressively monitoring and removing all the leaked copies of the finale episode from the internet.
HBO’s Distribution Pattern Makes It Susceptible To Online Leaks
Although this isn’t the first for a House Of The Dragon episode to appear online prematurely, it’s earliest yet given that the intended release date was just two days away. Not just that, the series’ predecessor, Game Of Thrones, was no stranger to such leaks from Season 1 to 8. However, these leaks are inevitable given HBO’s distribution patterns.
The network is unique among its competitors given that it relies completely on third parties in the United States and internationally to reach its viewers. Given that it lets go of certain steps in the content distribution chain, the network is vulnerable to leaks.
House Of The Dragon Finale Streams Exclusively In 4K On Sunday
In an official statement to Deadline, the network noted that the leaked episode’s origin is from somewhere in the Middle East, Europe, or Africa. The statement read, “We are aware that the 10th episode of House Of The Dragon has been posted on illegal torrent sites. HBO is aggressively monitoring and pulling these copies from the internet. We’re disappointed that this unlawful action has disrupted the viewing experience for loyal fans of the show, who will get to see a pristine version of the episode when it premieres Sunday on HBO and HBO Max, where it will stream exclusively in 4K.”
House Of The Dragon Season 1 Episode 9 titled The Green Council sets the stage for a big fight between the two dragon-riding families eyeing the throne. After Queen Alicent misunderstands late King Viserys’ last words, Aegon Targaryen is named the new king of the realm. However, Rhaenyra in alliance with Princess Rhaenys and her dragon Meleys escapes the confinement and crashes Aegon’s coronation. They barely resist the urge to torch the royal family before flying away.
House Of The Dragon Episode 1 Caused HBO Max’s App To Crash
Although the series is popular now, the spinoff met with some skepticism from Game Of Thrones fans. Yet, House Of The Dragon has managed to impress both viewers and critics. The first season so far has bagged an 86% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Right behind is an audience score of 84%.
Not just that, the series premiere episode scored the title of HBO’s most-watched TV premiere in history. The viewer inflow was so heavy that HBO Max’s app even came crashing after the episode became available to stream.
