Every year for decades, kids of all ages have watched Charlie Brown holiday specials on TV. PBS has bad news for fans this year. For only the second time since 1996, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown won’t air on television this year.
Here is why this is happening and where fans can see it instead.
Why is It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown not on TV this year?
PBS Kids released a message on Twitter about It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. They won’t be airing the show this year. According to the network, they don’t have the right to distribute any Peanuts specials this year. “We’ll all have to watch for the Great Pumpkin in a different pumpkin patch this Halloween.”
Since 1996, the only other time that It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown didn’t air on television was in 2020. That was also a year that it was made available on Apple TV+.
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown focused on Linus, as he sits every year in the pumpkin patch and waits hopefully to see the Great Pumpkin arise from the patch to bring presents to all the good boys and girls. However, no one believes him and mocks his beliefs. Meanwhile, Charlie Brown attends a Halloween party after trick or treating, only to end up mocked by the other kids. Finally, Snoopy goes into action as he attempts to battle his mortal enemy, the Red Baron.
Regretfully, PBS does not have the rights to distribute the Peanuts specials this year. We’ll all have to watch for the Great Pumpkin in a different pumpkin patch this Halloween.

How to see It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown this year
While it won’t be on regular TV this year, fans can still catch it on a streaming service, although it is one that a majority of households don’t subscribe to. This year, Apple TV+ has the rights to stream the Peanuts specials on TV, but it will only be for a limited time.
