‘DWTS’: Joseph Baena Wants To Step Out Of His Dad’s Shadow
DWTS Season 31 contestant Joseph Baena is known for his career as a bodybuilder. But that’s not all. He’s also the son of world-famous actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. His mother worked as a housekeeper for the family. She and the actor had an affair while he was still married to Maria Shriver. Joseph didn’t learn about his biological father’s identity until he was about 13 years old. But since then, it seems like the former Californian governor has tried to build a positive relationship with his son.
Joseph Baena seems to get along well with his biological father. However, he doesn’t like it when people compare the two. Joseph admittedly feels quite a bit of pressure when it happens. That’s one reason why he opted to go by his mother’s surname, “Baena.” He’s really hoping his run on Dancing With The Stars will help him step out of his father’s shadow.
Joseph Baena is determined to do things his own way
Joseph Baena did pay homage to his father during his Disney+ Night routine, but that’s about as far as he wants the comparisons to go. As the 25-year-old said during Monday night’s episode, he wants to forge his own path. And that definitely means not using his father’s name for his own benefit.
“It’s been a huge growth year of me finding out who I am and really being secure… confident… no matter what the challenges are, what the comparisons are,” Joseph said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital. “The message that I wanted to get across was, there’s a lot of people out there with very accomplished parents… and it’s scary. It’s scary to get compared to these giants, and to have the feeling like you need to live up to these expectations.”
Those sentiments definitely shone through during Monday night’s episode. The 25-year-old shared what his performance meant to him on social media.
“The theme of tonights show is ‘Most Memorable Year’ and for me my most memorable year is 2022. A year of growth, realizations, and a year filled with accomplishment. It’s the year I started doing things my way hence the song choice – My Way by Frank Sinatra,” Joseph wrote on Instagram ahead of Monday night’s episode.

Most Memorable Year Night is over, but that’s not where the fun and action ends. Fans can watch Joseph Baena and Daniella Karagach compete on Dancing With The Stars tonight. It’s Prom Night and the pair will be performing the Cha Cha to “Shut Up and Dance” by WALK THE MOON. The pair had pretty remarkable success during Most Memorable Year Night, so Joseph’s fans really hope that he can score well again tonight.
