News just broke that Daniel Radcliffe’s co-star in Harry Potter, Robbie Coltrane, has tragically passed away. As TvShosAce reported, Robbie Coltrane was confirmed dead at the age of 72 by his agent. His agent confirmed the actor passed away at a hospital near his home. He had been ill for a few years now. Unfortunately, his exact cause of death has yet to be made public.

Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter, shared an incredible bond with Robbie’s character Hagrid in the series. Some fans considered Hagrid to be a father figure of sorts for Harry. Fans had a special love for Hagrid because he was ultimately the one that came and rescued Harry from his miserable life and introduced him to the world of magic.

Robbie Coltrane Dead: Daniel Radcliffe reacts to the sad news

As Variety reminds us, Daniel Radcliffe and Robbie Coltrane worked together on all eight Harry Potter films. Daniel was just 12 years old when he met Robbie on the set of Harry Potter. The young man grew up with Robbie very much a part of his life.

In his statement, Daniel notes that he will forever remember how hilarious his co-star was and how he was able to keep all of the kids on set laughing. Daniel said that Robbie was one of the “funniest people” he had ever had the pleasure of spending time with.

I’ve especially fond memories of him keeping our spirits up on ‘Prisoner of Azkaban,’ when we were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up. I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet and work with him and very sad that he’s passed. He was an incredible actor and a lovely man.”

The Harry Potter star agrees that it is a very sad day for fans of the franchise as Robbie was both an incredible man and an incredible actor. Daniel concluded his statement by noting he was “very sad” to learn of his passing and he was so happy he had the pleasure of working with someone so talented.
