Santo trails the story of a titular Brazilian drug lord who wishes to establish a new drug empire in Madrid. Created by Carlos López, the series has received mixed to favorable critics and audience reviews. As per TheCinemaholic, the performances of the main cast have been especially praised by critics. Plus, the supernatural elements no doubt add stars to the crime drama’s plot. Given that the first season of the show ended with a cliffhanger, viewers are now eager to learn whether there will be a second season.

Santo Season 1 Ended With A Cliffhanger

Netflix hasn’t yet released an official statement pertaining to the series’ future. However, given the fact that Season 1 ended with a nail-biter, it is highly likely that the series will have another season coming soon. This aforementioned cliffhanger shows Santo holding Lucia, Millian’s daughter at gunpoint in an effort to blackmail her father. Given that Season 1 didn’t offer any resolution to Santo’s character, the ending will surely pave the way to Season 2.

The fictional series is filmed in Brazil and Spain. These countries are among Netflix’s pivotal overseas markets. In case the first season of the series fares well in both countries, Season 2 will be a surety. The open-ending climax of this crime thriller is a tad similar to the one seen in another Netflix series. Framed! A Sicilian Murder Mystery shared a look-alike cliffhanger that eventually paved the way to Season 2.

Netflix’s Santo Is Shot In Two Countries

So, counting on the fact that the series does well in Brazil and Spain, Santo Season 2 is sure to be renewed. If that happens, fans can expect it sometime in the third quarter of 2024. However, Santo is also an expensive project for the streaming giant given the fact that it has to be filmed in two countries. So, Season 1’s reception has to be exceptional for Santo to receive a renewal.
