There was mixed reaction to the long-sleeved T-shirts that were featured in a showcase for his new Yeezy line at YZY SZN 9 presentation. Most of his friends in the fashion industry have sided with him.

Even NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown sided with the business mogul. It makes sense since he’s the president of Kanye’s Donda sports organization. However, P. Diddy said in an Instagram video that Kanye West is turning a political statement into a joke.

Kanye West reacts to controversy

The hip-hop artist defended his shirts on Wednesday, October 5. He took to Instagram to double down on his decision. Kanye West doesn’t understand the negative reaction to his shirts.

“Here’s my latest response when people ask me why I made a tee that says white lives matter… THEY DO,” Kanye West captioned a photo of a black long-sleeved shirt on Instagram.

Candace Owens took to the comment section to leave a series of crying-laughing emojis. She attended the event and posed in one of the garments. Sources told Page Six that he doesn’t understand the backlash. Kanye West thinks “PC culture” is to blame for what happened.

“He thinks it’s a PC thing,” an insider told Page Six. “He wants to give a voice to the ‘other side.’ He doesn’t understand why people aren’t seeing that.”

What is White Lives Matter?

Per The New York Times, White Lives Matter is a response to the Black Lives Matter movement, which was founded in 2013 in response to the murder of Trayon Martin. The international social movement reignited in June 2020 after the killing of George Floyd. The political movement was created to combat police brutality, racism, and anti-Black violence.
