Born in 1942 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Joy Behar was born Josephine Victoria Occhiuto. She was the only child in a Roman Catholic family of Italian descent. The 80-year-old earned a BA in sociology from Queens College in 1964 followed by an MA in English in 1966 from Stony Brook University. She started her career as an English teacher at Long Island’s Lindenhurst Senior High School. However, later on, she studied acting at the HB Studio.
In the early 1980s, she worked as a receptionist for ABC’s Good Morning America and later on worked as a producer for the same. She also has several stints as a stand-up comedian & made appearances on GMA & The New Show. The actress also hosted a talk show on Lifetime Television named Way Off Broadway. Behar also hosted Live From Queens and was a regular on NBC’s Baby Boom. She also had minor roles in movies like This Is My Life, Cookie, & Manhattan Murder Mystery.
Joy Behar Is Paid $7 Million/Year For Hosting The View
Behar started appearing on The View in 1997 as one of the original panelists. The show was co-created by Barbara Walters and Joy appeared on days when Walters couldn’t host. The mother of one has also shown her skills in several theatrical plays like Love, Loss and What I Wore & The Vagina Monologues. Behar is a strong Democratic party supporter and has made significant investments in the real estate market. In 2016, she reportedly sold her traditional cedar home located in East Hampton for $3.8 Million. Later on, she purchased another home nearby for $4.75 Million.
