Many Bringing Up Bates and Counting On fans know about the Bates and Duggar modesty rules. While living under their parents’ roofs, they wear long skirts or dresses and don’t show much skin. Shorts, pants, tank tops, and form-fitting clothing is frowned upon. But now, fans are taking a closer look at the families’ modesty rules, and something doesn’t quite add up.

Keep reading to get all of the details.

It’s worth noting that now, as the Duggar and Bates girls grow up, get married, and move out, they don’t all follow these same strict rules. Some of them, including Michaela Bates Keilen, still dress pretty modestly. But others have started doing their own thing.

Fans point out an inconsistency in the Bates and Duggar modesty rules

In a new post on the Duggar Bates Confessions Instagram page, fans are talking about the families’ modesty rules. One fan pointed out that the girls typically wear a lot of makeup. They questioned, “Isn’t that just showing God that He didn’t make them perfect and they have to do it themselves?”

In the comments section of the post, fans are continuing the discussion. One fan asked, “Like I always thought vanity is a sin but yet they are wearing make up? Isn’t that vain?”

However, another fan said they think makeup is used for “self-expression.” They don’t think it has anything to do with vanity or modesty, as others have stated.

As TV Shows Ace reported, Alyssa Bates Webster posed for a selfie in a pretty floral dress while on her way to her brother Trace’s wedding rehearsal dinner. She put on a glam look, featuring a full face of makeup. You can see it below.

Josie Bates Balka even offers hair and makeup services for weddings and typically wears lots of makeup herself.

For some reason, the Bates and Duggar modesty rules don’t seem to apply to makeup. After all, many of them have been wearing makeup since they were teenagers and still lived at home. It’s unclear what their argument is for wearing makeup while maintaining the rest of the modesty rules.

So, what do you think about the women wearing makeup despite the Bates and Duggar modesty rules? Do you think makeup and clothing are connected in this way? Sound off in the comments section below, and come back to TV Shows Ace for more updates about the Counting On and Bringing Up Bates families.
