Joy Behar mocked Governor DeSantis ahead of Hurricane Ian, which is touching down on the sunshine state. On Wednesday’s broadcast of The View, she sounded off on his request for federal aid. She didn’t feel bad for Governor Ron DeSantis. He was asking for bipartisan assistance in wake of the natural disaster.
At the time of this writing, Hurricane Ian made landfall in southwest Florida. It’s a Category 4 storm with 150-mph winds. This storm can cause extreme flooding, power outages, and devastating winds. There were also tornado warnings in some parts of the state.
The Republican governor is looking for assistance in light of the storm. Joy Behar mocked his previous comments that asking for help is “socialism.”
Joy Behar scoffs at Gov. DeSantis
Her comments took place during the “Hot Topics” segment of The View. Joy Behar trended on Twitter for what she said about the Florida politician. The hosts shared a clip of DeSantis stating “we all need to work together, regardless of party lines.” He thanked the Biden administration for their help. DeSantis reiterated that “we really need everyone working together to make sure people have their needs tended to.”
Joy Behar took the opportunity to mock the governor. After the clip ended, she asked her co-hosts, “Isn’t it socialism when the government helps you?” Her co-host Sunny Hostin sarcastically said, “Yeah, and the fire department’s gotta come, and the police. I mean, socialism!”
The redhead co-host fired back at DeSantis calling liberals “socialists.” His supporters have even stated, “We are ‘Ready for Ron’ because we’re ready to defeat socialism — before it’s too late.” Joy Behar also mentioned DeSantis’ controversial decision to send migrants from Venezuela to Martha’s Vineyard. He took credit for what many have been calling a political move ahead of the midterm elections.
The View host continues to slam Florida governor
That wasn’t all that Joy Behar said during the show. She joked that “he could use some of the money that he used to get those migrants to Martha’s Vineyard” for the cleanup from Hurricane Ian. She admitted that the natural disaster will be “a test for him” leading up to the 2022 November election.
Meanwhile, her fellow co-host Whoopi Goldberg didn’t understand why DeSantis thanked Biden when it’s his job to help the state of Florida. She wondered, “This is not politics. These are people’s lives. What did he think was gonna happen?” Joy Behar reminded DeSantis that he needs to consider climate change in light of the recent natural disasters.
