‘The Masked Singer’ Fans Consider New Format A Waste
The Masked Singer returned this week, and on the first night, four masked celebrities performed. Typically, there would be one person who went home and fans would debate the identities of the others for the next few weeks. That was all part of the fun.
That won’t happen this year. On the first night, the new format meant that only one singer moved on to the semifinals, and the other three celebs were unmasked and went home. Only two were unmasked, but the Hummingbird should be unmasked next week and this eliminates the guessing game fun.
Fans are not happy about The Masked Singer changes
Fans were chatting about The Masked Singer on Reddit as the episode went on. After the first person was unmasked halfway through the episode and the second toward the end, fans started to get frustrated with the speed of the eliminations. With three of the four singers eliminated right off the bat in Week 1, one fan took to Reddit and wrote, “I’m starting to think only one going through each week is going to suck.”
This person was not alone. People began to respond to his comment, and almost everyone agreed with them. One said that this might be a selling point for The Masked Singer to get famous people to come on the show if they knew they would only have to be there for one night. Another person guessed it would be three big names all eliminated right off the bat. A third said it was a “waste” of celebrities and costumes.
Finally, it ruins the guessing game. One said that ” it’s really hard to guess singer from one song, especially if they are trying to disguise their voice.” Finally, one person asked if the costumes would be less impressive since they would only be on TV for one week and then never show up again.
Other The Masked Singer fans like the new format
One fan said they liked it because they would always be surprised at the unmasking. When celebrities last for weeks at a time, people online figure it out and spoil the unmasking. In other cases, the clues make it obvious and it just comes down to when they unmask. An example is most people already realize Harp is likely Amber Riley. On the other hand, The Masked Singer Week 1 saw the surprising unmasking of William Shatner and Eric Idle eliminated.
The moment where the celebrity is unmasked is arguably the best part of the show. This could help The Masked Singer get better celebrities. Maybe the crazy A-list celebs that Ken Jeong guesses could actually come true.

Don’t appreciate the new format. All the fun of guessing week to week and favorites in for the long haul have been obliterated. it was so fun watching the judges guessing from week to week on favorites making it to next round. I’m just going to fast forward to see the unmasking and then go back to other shows.
Don’t like the new format it sucks. cause my boyfriend and I guest the very first ones and see if we are right. now it’s just not worth watching anymore.
The new format has taken all the charm out of the show. Ir’s no fun anymore, What a waste of Shat and Idle, just sad. Also the costumes of the dancers used to be so cool and different, now they’re just plain corny. You can’t get attached to multiple singers anymore. It seems like these first three shows are all glitz (and very sad glitz at that) and no heartfelt monents. It all seems too fake and too scripted, like the judges already know who everyone is and their banter is all lies. The exact opposite of what the show used to be…fun.
I absolutely do not like this new format! It feels like there is not competition anymore!! The same singer advances each week and it is boring and no fun anymore…..
Not liking the new format. Seems that the suspense of guessing from week to week is gone…Would be waiting anxiously for the next show. This time around don’t even care if I see it. Seems too that the caliber of good singers is not there. Seems the intention is to have one good singer reign through it all…Not as fun, good or exciting as the previous format. Do disappointed as this was my favorite shoe
I fully agree the show is a waste to watch! I used look forward to Wednesday but no longer go back to what viewers want bring back the old show.Please
The final show is a total bore. Getting a lot of housework done while it is on.
