This year, TikToker Charli D’Amelio and her mother Heidi D’Amelio are both competing on Dancing With The Stars. The show has had married couples compete against each other before, but this is the first mother/daughter duo.

However, it seems like there might have been some issues in the rehearsal room. During the DWTS Season 31 premiere, Heidi D’Amelio admitted that she almost quit the competition before the first episode ever aired. What pushed her to the edge and why did she ultimately end up choosing to stay?

Many Dancing With The Stars contestants really struggle to adapt to the rigorous rehearsal room schedule. Competitors notoriously spend hours in the practice room learning brand new dance styles that really push them to their limits. And on top of that, some of the pros can get a little testy when the celebrity contestants can’t pick up the steps.

This year, Season 29 champion Artem Chigvintsev is partnering with Heidi D’Amelio. Fans absolutely adore Artem and can’t wait to see what he and Heidi do with the rest of the season. But just a week ago, Heidi was thinking about completely dropping out of the show.

“So, I was fine up until last Tuesday, and then Wednesday, rehearsal was awful and I was on the verge of crying. But I was like, ‘I am not going to let [Artem] see me cry, I am not going to do that,’” Heidi recently told Page Six in an interview.

The reality TV mom went on to say that she struggled during the entire course of the three-hour rehearsal. She and Artem worked until 4 am but things just weren’t getting any better. Heidi admitted she was starting to get into her own head and felt overwhelmed by feelings of self-doubt.

But that all started to change once she had a chat with her daughter Charli.

“She told me everything I used to tell her when she was a kid and in dance,” Heidi told Page Six. “So to hear those words coming out of her mouth to me, I was like, ‘Alright, I get it.’ It was great advice.”

Heidi and Artem went on to pull off a 24 out of 40 points for their cha-cha-cha, which put them in the middle of the pack. Charli D’Amelio and her partner Mark Ballas went on to pull off the highest score of the night.

Charli also spoke to Page Six about her mom’s anxiety before the premiere.

“I think for my mom, it’s trying something new. And knowing that you’re going to perform in front of so many people, I think would be extremely nerve-wracking for anyone,” the TikTok star revealed. “I think for a long time she was the mom to my sister and I, and she never got to be at the forefront of the performance.”
