‘DWTS’: Sam Champion On Painful New Role

GMA meteorologist Sam Champion opened up about his painful new role after joining Dancing with the Stars. Earlier this month, he was announced to join the new cast of the ABC dancing competition, which premieres on Monday, September 19 on Disney+.

The fan favorite is teamed up with two-time champion, Cheryl Burke. At the time of the announcement, Sam admitted that he was not a dancer. He’s rarely danced, even at weddings. He would rather forecast the weather from the Good Morning America studios.

However, he’s excited to try out this new role even if it brings bumps and bruises. Read on to learn more.

Sam Champion shares an “uncomfortable” moment

The weatherman isn’t used to tying up his dancing shoes. Sam Champion is usually buttoned-up with dress shoes. Like his fellow contestants, he’s been rehearsing for his first dance on DWTS on Monday. In a new social media post, Sam shared an “uncomfortable” moment that took place during rehearsals.

Sam Champion loves to update fans about his ongoings on Twitter. It’s the best way for GMA fans to keep in touch and interact with him. Earlier this week, Sam took to Twitter to share a video of his dancing shoes. He admitted that they’re not as comfy as his work shoes.

“Whew! it’s finally time for a feet — meet-and-greet #DWTS31 @CherylBurke @ABC7NY @GMA @officialdwts,” Sam Champion tweeted.

He shared a video of his shiny black dancing shoes, which aren’t comfortable since they’re new. The video reads: “Dance shoes, meet my feet…” In the clip, the GMA anchor admitted that he’s been trying to break into his shoes, so he wouldn’t get blisters anymore. One fan wanted to know if they were comfortable.

“Nope,” Sam Champion simply responded.

Another fan asked him what kind of shoes he was wearing on-air. Sam admitted that he’s taking a break from fancy shoes in general. He wants to give his feet a break in-between rehearsals by wearing Nikes. On day three of dance rehearsals, he shared a sneak-peek at his comfortable shoes.

Have dance shoes, will travel

Sam Champion even brought his dance shoes with him to work. He tried to break them in, even when he’s not dancing. The 61-year-old shared that he often has to change the bandages on his feet “once a day so far” and that he will experiment with different shoes. It will take him some time to find the right paper.

Sam is one of the 16 contestants on Season 31 of DWTS. Earlier this week on GMA, he admitted that he can “barely move.” He was in pain from the recent rehearsals. On Monday, Robin asked Sam to show off one of the dance moves he’s learned. He walked off the set laughing, but when he returned she begged him to join in with her.

“Robin, I can barely move from this side of the map to that side of that map,” Sam Champion joked.

The co-host wore his dancing shoes during the weather broadcast. Sam joked they were too shiny to dance under the studio’s bright lights. He didn’t want to blind the viewers at home. Looks like Sam Champion’s feet aren’t the only body parts that are barking.
