Selma Blair Feels Beyond Blessed To Compete On ‘DWTS’
Legally Blonde actress Selma Blair has been dealing with a chronic illness for quite some time now. She received a multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis back in 2018 and has really struggled since.
But even through all the pain and heartbreak, Selma Blair is determined to give Dancing With The Stars everything she has. She will compete with pro dancer Sasha Farber this year.
At the end of the day, Selma Blair is incredibly grateful for the chance to compete at all. See what she had to say.
Selma Blair wants to keep fighting and find pockets of joy in her life
According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, “Multiple sclerosis is a disease that impacts the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves, which make up the central nervous system and controls everything we do.” In other words, it impacts every part of Selma Blair’s life now. Her new normal looks a little different than her old daily life, but she is determined not to let her disease define her.
Dancing With The Stars fans had a chance to meet the Season 31 cast this week on Good Morning America. The 50-year-old actress spoke about how glad she was to have this opportunity. There have been times when she wasn’t sure if she would still be here four years out.
While on GMA, Selma said that she’s “grabbing at every joy we have in life” now.
“The truth is when I am trying new things I get a lot of spasticity, dystonia, and I am okay,” she said.
“Walking is much harder for me than when I can get into the groove of settling into dance and fluidity,” the Cruel Intentions actress told Entertainment Tonight in another interview. “This is an amazing lesson to use my emotions and body together to unite a little more with the support of Sasha and music.”
This is definitely one DWTS partnership fans need to watch
It already seems like Sasha and Selma are a match made in Heaven. The actress shared on Instagram that the dancer walked into her house and offered to make dinner for her and her son Arthur. Dancing With The Stars partnerships are often special, but it seems like Selma and Sasha will have a very unique, genuine connection this year. And that’s something that the actress really needs if she wants to do well in this new challenge.
“This isn’t about a dance competition for me personally,” Sasha said during the interview with ET. “I want Selma to improve and to grow.”
Sasha just lost his grandfather to dementia this week and is going through a bit of a rough patch himself. Hopefully, he and Selma can lean on each other and be a strong support system for one another.
