Josh Duggar’s deadline to file an appeal is extended once again
On Friday, September 9, the news broke that Josh’s deadline to file an appeal has been extended again. According to KNWA, which is a local Fox affiliate in Arkansas, his “defense team submitted an unopposed motion for an extension of time to file its opening brief.” This motion was submitted on September 8.
Once this deadline was approved on September 9, Josh Duggar’s defense team’s deadline was pushed to October 3. His team says that he “does not anticipate” another extension in the future. So, the appeal should officially come in by October 3 as long as everything goes as planned moving forward.
The motion notes, “Given the length of the transcript arising out of this criminal jury trial and the complexity of the possible issues on appeal, Duggar respectfully requests an additional 21 days within which to file his opening brief.”
In the past, Josh Duggar’s defense has mentioned these same reasons for the extension.
In the motion, Josh’s defense team notes that meeting with their client required “significant coordination with the Bureau of Prisons.” They were able to meet at the prison this week.
Josh’s team says, “A substantive meeting with Duggar was a necessary prerequisite to finalizing Duggar’s opening brief so as to protect Duggar’s rights.”
By requesting an extension, Josh’s attorney made it clear that this was not done to “hinder or delay” any part of the legal process.
