Hocus Pocus 2 comes to Disney+ on September 30. Fans of the original film will have an entire month to watch and rewatch the film in preparation for Halloween. However, the sequel isn’t going to feature many familiar faces from the first movie.

The Sanderson Sisters will all return, but the teens from the first movie won’t. Omri Katz played Max in the first movie and recently spoke up about his lack of involvement in Hocus Pocus 2. See what the actor had to say.

Omri Katz won’t reprise his role in Hocus Pocus 2

There wouldn’t have been a Hocus Pocus at all without the character Max. Even though Omri Katz would have loved to make a cameo in the sequel, he says he’s okay with the way things are.

“People have been asking, and unfortunately, I’m not in it. I would have loved to be involved,” the 46-year-old told EW. “I feel bad for the original fan base saying we aren’t because I’m sure they wanted to see us reprise our roles.”

But even so, Katz hopes that fans will give Hocus Pocus 2 a chance.

“I think it’ll be good for everyone who loved the original!” he told the publication. There will be some changes, but he thinks fans will adjust. “I hope fans will go see it. I know I will.”

The film’s director Anne Fletcher said the creative team made a decision not to include the teens from the original film.

“We wanted to weave in all of the people that the fans loved, and when you sat back with all the ingredients and story, you’re like, ‘how do we make this work?'” Fletcher said in an interview with EW. “It was very difficult to try to have them be a part of it because we did talk about it — painstakingly. You’re trying to stay on track with story, even if they came in as a cameo. People would say, ‘They could be in the background!’ And I’m like, really? You’re going to put the leads of the first movie in the background and be satisfied? You’re not going to be satisfied, you’re going to be angry.”

So what can fans expect from the new film?

Even though Max won’t be back in Hocus Pocus 2, there’s still a lot to look forward to. This fall, a group of new teens will resurrect the Sanderson Sisters from their graves. In just a few more weeks, Winifred, Sarah, and Mary will be back to wreak havoc on the citizens of Salem.
