There is a new and interesting show coming soon to Roku for cooking aficionados. The popular cooking show, The Great British Bake Off, which airs in the U.S. as The Great British Baking Show recently announced its U.S. spinoff. Titled The Great American Baking Show, the show will premiere with Zach Cherry and Ellie Kemper as co-hosts.

The Great American Baking Show Is A Roku Exclusive

This new series is currently in production in the U.K. It will welcome regulars from the show that include Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood as judges. More so, the show will have a total of six episodes (60 minutes each) and will premiere on the Roku Channel in 2023.

The American edition, just like its popular British flagship, aims to bring together talented, passionate bakers from different parts of the country. As per E.T., the competition will scoop out the best from the talented lot to honor them as America’s Best Amateur Baker.

Brian Tannenbaum, Roku’s Head of Alternative Originals, released a statement regarding the show. He wrote, “We could not ask for a more perfect duo than Ellie and Zach to co-host The Great American Baking Show. Our adaptation of the iconic series will continue to dish out the enduring warmth and humor that fans of the Baking Show universe love, with a twist that we know Ellie and Zach will deliver.”

“The passion that fans have for this franchise is unmatched, and we’re so honored to kick off production with Love Productions USA to bring The Great American Baking Show exclusively to The Roku Channel,” he continued.

Why Isn’t The Word ‘Bake Off’ A Part Of The Show’s Title?

Roku also recently announced its plans for The Great American Baking Show: Celebrity Holiday Edition. The holiday edition will feature celebrities that will compete in the show to raise money for charity. Now, there is a reason the show’s U.S. version doesn’t have the word ‘Bake Off’ in the title. In the U.S., Pillsbury owns the right to this specific phrase and hence prohibits the makers from using it.

It will be interesting to see whether Roku’s production of the American spinoff maintains the fuzzy and charming feelings that led to the success of the original. The writers even admitted that sometimes all the fun watching the U.K. version of the reality show was its accents. Plus, the funny phrases used.

However, they do have a lot of things going on to help the show achieve similar success in America. Given that the original judges will be a part of the show, it comes close enough to the original.

Netflix owns the streaming rights for The Great British Bake Off. However, its U.K. version will be a Roku exclusive.
