I Just Killed My Dad is Netflix’s latest true crime docuseries that will throw viewers for a loop. The three-part series is directed by Skye Borgman, who also directed Abducted in Plain Sight. It focuses on the real-life story of Anthony Templet. Here’s everything you need to know about the unbelievable tale.

Who Is Anthony Templet?

Anthony Templet is the star of the three-part series where he tells his own story. The official synopsis for the Netflix series states, “Anthony Templet shot his father and never denied it. But why he did is a complex question with profound implications that go far beyond one family.”

On June 3, 2019, Templet called 911 and calmly told the operator, “I just killed my dad. I shot him three times.” Templet never denied killing his father, but it wasn’t clear whether he was guilty of a crime or not. However, the major dilemma for authorities was deciding whether or not this act was in self-defense.

The documentary takes a look at the abuse he suffered as a child and how it led to the fatal event on the evening of June 3. “I shouldn’t be charged with anything because I didn’t do anything wrong,” he stated in the trailer for the Netflix series.

Technically, Anthony Templet was a missing child. His father, Burt Templet, abducted him at the age of five and manipulated him for years. Anthony went on to tell the judge that his dad didn’t allow him to attend school. In fact, he’d never completed a grade.

According to Templet, he was abused by his father for years. At times, he said he was thrown, punched, and kicked. Moreover, Templet said his father was controlling and always tracking him with a mobile app or camera.

Finally, after years of physical and mental abuse, Anthony snapped and killed his dad. That’s his story anyway, but viewers can listen and decide for themselves.

He was a child who spent his life abused, neglected by his abusive father. All he knew was isolation. The lack of emotion is a defense mechanism and imaginably- will take years to unravel.

Another person wrote, “Burt was a monster period.” Others commented how he was failed by every adult in his life until his defense attorney came into the picture.
