Fans saw Spencer Swies get Gabby Windey’s group date rose this week on The Bachelorette. Now, he stopped by Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation podcast to share some thoughts about that rose and the date in general. Bachelor Nation had the scoop.

Spencer said when it came down to giving a speech about the things he loved about Gabby it went smoother than he thought it would. He said that had he not gotten to know her some he would have been more nervous. However, since it was a few weeks in he had fun telling her all the things he loved about her.

He also noted that the speech was the easy part of their date. Spencer said boxing was more challenging. However, he just went with it and had fun.

Spencer shared that fans haven’t gotten to see a lot of the connection he and Gabby have shared. He also noted that he and she bonded over their military background. He was honored she chose to give him that group date rose.

His military background

Spencer actually attended a very prestigious college. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. While there he studied Business and Medical Engineering. Once he graduated he served in the Army. Served in the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Division.

According to his Linkedin account, Spencer worked with AH-64 Apache and UH-60 Blackhawk aircraft. He also “analyzed the operations of higher-level units in order to produce the most effective recommendations to the unit commander.”

Spencer also shared that his mom gave him some very good advice. He needed her advice to help him open up to Gabby. He said, “The best advice I got was to be open and be vulnerable, and that was tough at first. That was very hard for me. Not saying it wasn’t also hard for other people; everyone has their own struggle. For me, being so serious and having my military past, it was hard for me to open up.”

Now that his time in the military is over, Spencer is back to school but this time at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

He doesn’t consider himself a classic romantic. However, Spencer is very thoughtful and does things to make his partner happy.
