Sharna Burgess Talks Baby Weight Pressure & ‘DWTS’ Return
Sharna Burgess might be a new mom, but she knows she wants to keep dancing. But even so, there are a lot of pressures that come along with that. For example, losing the baby weight.
Almost every mother puts on a little bit of weight during pregnancy, but people don’t always seem so forgiving when the mothers aren’t able to work it off right away. Sharna has a plan for dealing with the baby weight and refuses to beat herself up about it. Keep reading to see what she had to say.
Sharna Burgess isn’t worried about snapping back into shape right away
Throughout her pregnancy, Sharna Burgess maintained a healthy, active lifestyle. She frequently posted videos of herself exercising on her Instagram page. Baby weight is perfectly natural during pregnancy, but many women feel pressure to work it off right away. However, Sharna chooses to be more gentle with herself.
“Honestly, I thought I would [feel pressure]. I thought it would because of having been an athlete and my body being my career — it’s not just about aesthetics on the outside, it’s about how my core feels to be able to dance and do what I do. I thought I would feel that pressure,” the Australian dancer told Us Weekly. “[But] I don’t have pressure on myself.”
Sharna acknowledges her body looks a little different right now and that’s okay. In previous interviews, she even boldly opened up about her delivery complications and the C-section scar that came with it.
But in the end, the dancer admits it was all worth it. She will also have a chance to work out more in the upcoming months because she plans on returning to DWTS in September.
The dancer would love to get back into the ballroom
Many of Sharna’s fans weren’t quite sure if she would try to come back to DWTS this year. After all, most moms wouldn’t be able to bounce back after just a few months after giving birth. But Sharna is definitely going to try.
“I would love to do the next season of Dancing With The Stars,” she continued in the interview. “It’s a conversation — I have to wait another two weeks before I can work out to test my body to see. But as far as aesthetically getting the weight off or worrying about what I look like, I had the initial fear of looking in the mirror and seeing where I was at.”
There’s definitely a chance that the Season 27 champion will return this fall, but she admits she just doesn’t quite know yet.
“I would love to be a part of it if my doctors and my body allows,” she added. “It’s an exciting thing [that] it’s over on Disney+ now. … But if I’m not there dancing in person with them, I will for sure be supporting from the sidelines or in the audience.”
For now, Sharna Burgess is focused on getting her pro dancer friends to come out and meet baby Zane.
