Mama June: Sudden Concern For Alana’s Health?
Mama June Shannon has never been a health-conscious mother. From her days on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, she was making odd and interesting meals. Her family grew accustomed to them and literally ate them right up. She further admitted that her way of showing love was through food. June has even admitted that she cannot stop eating. Now, her daughter Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson has talked about changing her life for the sake of her health. This led June to speak out about Alana’s health. So, what did she have to say?
Mama June Uses Food For Comfort
Back in 2016, Mama June underwent a gastric sleeve. It dramatically changed her life and her physical appearance. She looked amazing and so different, plus it was all documented on a new reality series. However, June ended up going on a downward spiral with her new boyfriend, Geno Doak. They got heavy into drugs, got arrested, and went to rehab. Upon getting sober, both of them put on a lot of weight, almost erasing all of the work of June’s weight loss surgery.
When she and Geno returned to their normal life, they took her youngest daughter, Alana out to eat. At the time, Alana had just moved in with her older sister Pumpkin who was trying to implement them eating better. Yet, June ordered a ton of junk food, claiming this was her way of showing her love. Soon enough, Alana was being tested for diabetes. Both she and June continued to struggle with their weight so much so that June decided she wanted a revision.
In the last episodes of this season of Road to Redemption, June and her now-husband Justin Stroud headed to LA. She sought the advice of a surgeon over getting her sleeve revised. Her hope was that it would help her stop eating but that was not the case. He told her she needed to diet and exercise first as this was not going to help. Then, in real-time, it was revealed by TMZ that Alana was undergoing weight loss surgery. Clearly, her mama had some thoughts on the situation.
Interfering With Alana’s Health?
At this point, Alana has made it clear she is still not completely sold on the weight loss surgery. Right now, Mama June’s youngest weighs around 275 pounds. Her goal is to get to 150 but she worries that there are a lot of other factors that could be holding her back including genetics. Right now, she has a lot of other things on her plate such as her boyfriend, Dralin Carswell’s resurfaced 2019 arrest. No one has really spoken on this but her mother has opened up about Alana getting weight loss surgery.
According to TMZ, Mama June is not completely on board with her daughter following in her footsteps. “I’m supportive if this is something Alana wants to get, but I would say she needs to wait until she’s 18 years old,” June shared with the outlet. More so, she was not told of her daughter’s intentions that have allegedly been set for after her seventeenth birthday in August. She also would have liked Alana’s guardian, Pumpkin to have reached out but that did not happen. Plus, she would like Alana to be the one signing the surgical papers, not her older sister,
Finally, Mama June was worried that this was an economic decision. However, sources have claimed that this will not be filmed like June’s was. If Alana does go through with it, it will be done sans cameras. In the end, it appears it will be between Alana and those close to her with no regard for June.
