'Below Deck': What Does Captain Sandy Think Of Malia's Exit?

Below Deck star Captain Sandy Yawn shared her thoughts on Malia White’s exit. The former bosun took a leave of absence after filming Season 6 of Below Deck Mediterranean. She still received social media backlash for Hannah Ferrier’s firing. Fans think she played a role in the former chief stew losing her job.

Captain Sandy fired Hannah for having unregistered Valium and a CBD pen. She uses both to help deal with her anxiety. However, both Malia and Captain Sandy saw it as a Maritime Law issue. They claim that it was no malicious intent.

The controversial move caused division among Below Deck Med fans. Both Malia and Captain Sandy got their share of criticism. Some fans even called for Bravo to fire the ladies. Both of them returned in Season 6, but Malia wanted to take a step back from the show.

Does Captain Sandy Yawn still speak to Malia White?

Captain Sandy and Malia became good friends because of their time together on Below Deck Med. On Monday, July 11, Season 7 of Below Deck Mediterranean premiered with a super-sized episode. Malia wasn’t one of the original crew members who returned to the show.

Mzi Dempers returned to continue his role as a deckhand. New bosun Raygan Tyler had some fans wanting Malia back. She was chastised for taking too many smoke breaks and not helping her crew members. In the premiere episode, Sandy admitted that while it “would have been great to have Malia back,” she’s excited to see what Raygan can do.

Hopefully, Raygan will pick up the pace as the charter continues. Per Bravo TV’s The Daily Dish, during her July 11 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Sandy revealed that she’s “still in contact with Malia.” She also revealed that she would work with her again, calling her “awesome.”

As TV Shows Ace previously reported, Captain Sandy ran into Malia back in April. Both of them maintained their yachting certifications at the Maritime Professional Training in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Malia is working up the ranks to become a captain. She’s now working as an officer on another yacht.

The Below Deck Med alum has moved on

Malia proved that she doesn’t want a reality television career. She wants to work within the yachting industry without having cameras around. Her life has changed for the better, even personally. She confirmed that she’s dating Jake the Engineer from Season 6 of Below Deck Med.

  1. I am not sure how much of Below Deck is scripted. But Captain Sandy, Malia and Bugsy definitely had it out for Hannah. This went back before Malia bringing her boyfriend then Tom onboard to be the chef. And his behavior was totally unacceptable and if anyone should of been fired it was him. Even after all his outburst Captain Sandy praised him as a chef. It’s really difficult to say much because some people take these shows and their personal feelings to a unhealthy level. Especially if your going to make threat toward cast members like Malia. If any of this was real life true Karma will speak for itself.

  2. Malia May have had her own personal intentions when she did report it but she was right in doing so.
However ,how anybody can blame Captain Sandy for firing Hannah once she got the report I don’t know. Would you risk your job?
Hannah was no angel she covered her tracks many times and lied so much.

  3. Hannah was not a good chief stew! And she did have unreported and illegal drugs on board. That is a fireable offense! She brought it on herself.
I agree Malia may have had some ill will, but had Hannah followed policy, this would not have been an issue!
