Do Michelle Young & Nayte Olukoya Have To Give Back The $200K Gift?
The Bachelorette Michelle Young has had a rough summer to date. She had two big life-changing announcements so far and all in the same month. First, Michelle announced her decision to step away from teaching and focus more on other things. Then, the news came after much speculation that she and Nayte Olukoya ended their engagement. Now that they are apart after just six months together, fans are wondering what will happen to that huge chunk of change given to them by the franchise for a down payment on their first home together. Today, Michelle shared some insight.
Michelle Young discusses the money given to her and Nayte by The Bachelorette franchise
Michelle Young appeared on the Almost Famous Podcast in her first interview since she and Nayte announced the end of their relationship. The interview shed some light on many things and also created a few more questions. One question discussed is what will happen to the money given to them by the franchise?
Michelle halfway answered the burning question in everyone’s mind. She addressed the $200K. Michelle said, “That was gifted to both of us, and I think that’s something that is going to be decided how that’s going to be utilized, going forward.”
She continued by saying, “For me, personally, [I] haven’t officially decided but I kind of have started putting some different things in place to give back, you know, to build an organization or just promote the change that I’ve been talking about and I think that’d be something that I’d feel really good about.”
Michelle also added that she’s spent some time crying on the phone with producers asking if there was a way to give the money to somebody else.
So it seems the franchise is not demanding the money be returned. Remember, if an engaged couple splits before two years together they have to give the ring back to the franchise. Giving the couple money is a first and it appears the rules may be different.
As for Nayte, he has not given a statement or addressed what he will do with his half of the money.
The way they were
Michelle and Nayte had sparked split rumors frequently throughout their short romance. The latest was only three weeks prior to them announcing their split. Michelle was seen without her engagement ring which set rumors into play. She and Nayte denied it that time. However, just a few weeks later they did split up.
Fans were hopeful they could make things work. But, there were some who thought Nayte wasn’t in it for the right reasons.
