Sword Art Online is returning with a brand new film in the Sword Art Online Progressive series. The original film in the series, Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria Of A Starless Night, was highly successful. Making nearly 12 million dollars in Japan and even cracking the top 10 at the box office in the USA. So it is safe to say that the fans of the franchise are anxiously awaiting the sequel. Luckily, the Japanese trailer just came out to give us all a first taste.
Sword Art Online Returns
The new film holds the title Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo Of A Dark Dusk. The trailer is out on YouTube now, although it is fully in Japanese with no English subtitles. This is because the movie is currently only set to release in Japan. It’s unlikely it will stay that way, though, and there’s still a lot to build excitement from the visual end of the trailer. The original movie came out in the US and Canada about 2 months after the movie’s release in Japan. Since the new film’s release date is currently set for September, that means it is likely that we may get it in North America as soon as November.
Progressive is a spinoff of the main series. It delves deeper into Kirito and Asuna’s time in Aincrad, the game from the original season of the anime. The voice actors for both characters are set to return in this upcoming movie.
Sword Art Online is an empire of a franchise. It contains multiple novels, manga, anime, and video games that have mostly seen great levels of success. Now, it is one of the most famous titles in Japan and around the world. The anime series has been over since 2020 with no current plans on doing a new season. Yet, the films have been going strong in the series’ place, and it seems more than a little likely that we’ll get a new season for the anime before too long.
Scherzo Of A Dark Dusk
For any new fans looking to jump into the world, every season of Sword Art Online is currently available on Netflix. However, the first movie in the Progressive series has yet to reach the platform.
Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo Of A Dark Dusk is hitting theaters around Japan on September 10th. As of right now, there is no official plan for any international release dates. Though, given the international popularity of the series, it will undoubtedly reach the globe not long after the film’s domestic release.
