'Friday Night Lights' Slated For Removal From Netflix Library

Netflix is about to remove Friday Night Lights from its US library. This is bad news for the fans of the cult classic. Seasons 1 through 5 are currently available on the streaming platform, but that won’t be the case for long. Read on to learn more about the removal and what else will leave Netflix later this summer.

When is Netflix removing Friday Night Lights?

The last day to stream all five seasons of Friday Night Lights is July 31, 2022. Netflix plans to remove the drama from its library on August 1, 2022. The series stars Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler, and Zach Gilford. It previously aired on NBC from 2006 to 2011.

Friday Night Lights is a long-running series that focused on the high school football team known as the Dillon Panthers. After its cancellation, it’s become a cult classic among newer fans and the generation who grew up with the series. Though this latest news comes as a shock to the hardcore fanbase, Netflix has removed the series before.

It returned to the platform in 2017. At the time, it was initially planned to remain on the platform for three years. However, Netflix went ahead and removed it on October 2, 2017. The streaming giant then agreed to a single-year deal with the show’s studio in hopes that it would become the permanent streaming home. Then, its wish came true as it almost became the permanent home.

Producer Peter Berg worked on a deal with Netflix at the time. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case as Friday Night Lights will be removed from the library. Berg’s only other work on Netflix is the 2022 Mark Wahlberg movie, Spenser Confidential. Somehow, his agreement with the platform fell through.

Will Peacock pick up Friday Night Lights?

Some fans are wondering if Peacock will acquire all five seasons of Friday Night Lights. It makes sense since NBC was its original home. NBCUniversal owns the new streaming platform, Peacock.

It’s likely that Friday Night Lights will end up in an agreement with Peacock, in which both free and premium subscribers could access the series. For now, all five seasons are available on Hulu and The Roku Channel.
