Derek Hough Dishes On His Elaborate Wedding Plans
Derek Hough recently proposed to his long-time girlfriend Hayley Erbert. And now that things are official, the couple is hard at work planning their special day.
But what does a wedding look like for a seasoned DWTS alumnus? Keep reading to see what the dancer had to say about the wedding plans.
Derek Hough plans on hosting a “festival” for his upcoming wedding
Derek Hough still holds the record for the most Mirrorball Trophies won during his time as a pro dancer on DWTS. But these days, he’s content to judge the competition instead. All signs indicate that he will be indeed back for Season 31 this fall.
But in the meantime, the Utah-native is hard at work planning his dream wedding to Hayley Erbert. And it sounds like the couple plans to spare no expense for their ceremony.
“I’m not going to name names right now, but I’ve already asked a few people to perform at the wedding and they’ve already committed,” the 37-year-old dancer told PEOPLE. “So it’s going to be a full-on festival — I’m very excited about it.”
And really, there’s no telling who it could be. Derek is notoriously close to many of the professional dancers on DWTS. On top of that, his family is full of dancers too.
When asked, Derek and Hayley both confirmed they would be dancing at their wedding — just not performing.
“Everybody’s like, ‘Are you guys are going to have a dance?'” Derek continued. “I’m like, ‘No, no, no. We’re going to enjoy the night, y’all are going to perform for us.'”
The day may be grand and spectacular, but Derek and Hayley are also just really excited to celebrate their love for one another with friends and family.
Hopefully, they’ll be willing to share special photos of the day with fans when it finally rolls around.
The DWTS judge opens up about the magnificent proposal
DWTS fans know that Derek Hough always likes to pull out the charm. And that’s exactly what he did during the big proposal. He ultimately chose to propose to Hayley at home, which is their “special place.”
“It felt special to transform the house into this beautiful sanctuary with candles and flowers and of course our special songs and music that mean a lot to us, playing at the same time,” he told Us Weekly. “I don’t think I remember anything I said. I think we just hugged and cried for 20 minutes without words. It was honestly even more beautiful than I could have imagined with all the flowers and the candles.”
